22 – 24 June 2018
'Setsuko Kobayashi Eikoku Fine Ladies Kendo Seminar' with Mayumi Inoue Kyoshi Nanadan & Kazuyo Matsuda Renshi Nanadan 22-24 June 2018
About the Seminar
The 12th Ladies Kendo Seminar organised and hosted by Kodokan. This year we will continue to study the particular issues found in female kendo and learn how to overcome the associated problems following on from last year's seminar lead by Inoue sensei and Matsuda sensei.
The event attracts female kenshi from all over Europe. We focus on the female kendo whilst practising basic and advanced exercises, with the main theme being the Kobayashi Method throughout the seminar.
Kobayashi sensei came to the UK and ran the first Fine Ladies Kendo Seminar in 2012, and we have been practising this 'Kobayashi Method' - a method developed specially for female kenshi - ever since.
We attract females of all ages from teenagers to well into their 60s whereas back in Tokyo where Kobayashi sensei teaches, there are older female kenshi in their 70s training together, proving that the Kobayashi Method works for all age groups. We seem to have regular attendees now, but newcomers are also warmly welcome. Friday is a mixed session, but both Saturday and Sunday will be strictly female only. So if your husband or boyfriend is interested in joining this is the time to join. You will enjoy this special occasion. Saturday evening is a party - female only as well!
It is undoubtedly the most significant female kendo event in the UK for many years.
Mayumi Inoue sensei, had taught kendo at Senshu University for decades and has been Setsuko Kobayashi sensei's assistant teacher for many years and has also previously run this seminar firstly since 2013 following Kobayashi sensei's first visit. She also supports Kazyuyo Matsuda as a strong kendoka who is passionate about female kendo and its development both now and for the future. Kazuyo Matsuda has been entrusted by Kobayashi sensei to represent her method here in the UK and Europe because female kenshi learn kendo differently and for female students, it is essential to have leading examples in ladies kendo. This year the two teachers will jointly run the seminar again, and there will be the further steps from the basic Kobayashi methods that you have learned in previous years.
